Engaging with Implants: On-Campus at College of Charleston
BISA Nonprofit visited the College of Charleston to provide breast implant safety education for the student community in a fun, engaging format. The on-campus activity, held on April 8, 2024, was led by founder Maria Gmitro and BISA intern Angie Gorton, a College of Charleston alumna and recent Communications graduate. With a focus on women's rights, Angie brings expertise from her minor in Women and Gender Studies.
BISA’s local Charleston advocates exhibited on campus to provide knowledge that can be key to keeping individuals safe, healthy, and informed. As prospective students and parents strolled, excellent conversations were had. Advocates debuted an interactive quiz, played a dice game, and awarded prizes to winners — while talking about all things related to implants.
ICYMI — Here’s a summary:
→ People couldn’t tell if BISA was for or against implants — balanced info, goal achieved!
→ People enjoyed physically touching the implants and asking direct questions.
→ Most were surprised it’s not mandatory for doctors to report problems to the FDA, or provide recall alerts.
→ People took handouts on how to keep themselves safe if choosing or living with breast implants.
