Our Mission

The mission of BISA is to raise awareness, optimize outcomes, and ensure informed consent for patients considering breast implant surgery.

BISA provides balanced, science-backed education, resources, and outreach to support empowered, informed healthcare decisions.

We collaborate with all stakeholders, including healthcare providers, regulators, and legislators, advancing systems of education, accountability, and patient safety.

Our Vision

  • Education about the risks and benefits of breast devices.

For example, saline and silicone implants both have silicone. Saline implants have a silicone shell.

  • Information with current, relevant, and accurate data. FDA-approved breast implants are not lifetime devices.

Breast implants aren’t forever, and they aren’t for everyone.

  • Transparency about risks and the medical device approval process.

  • Standards of care for breast implant illness (BII), breast implant-associated anaplastic lymphoma (BIA-ALCL), and other cancers.

  • Awareness of the signs and symptoms of breast implant illness and breast implant-associated anaplastic lymphoma (BIA-ALCL).

  • Insurance coverage for health issues associated with breast implants.

  • Access to healthcare for all patients who may be experiencing health complications associated with breast implants.

  • Informed consent to make informed choices.

  • Tracking and surveillance of breast devices with tracking and notification for recalled devices and devices causing illness or cancer.
