We’re in the News - BISA Quoted in MedTech Dive on Dr. Michelle Tarver’s Appointment as New FDA CDRH Director
BISA’s president Maria Gmitro and BISA’s advisor data advocate Madris Kinard of Device Events were both quoted in MedTech Dive, citing the optimism regarding Dr. Michelle Tarver’s appointment as the new Director of CDRH at FDA.
MedTech Dive published an article on October 31, 2024, titled “Michelle Tarver faces challenges as new CDRH leader. But patient groups and industry are optimistic.” Dr. Michelle Tarver, the new head of the FDA’s medical device center, is stepping into a significant role with challenges and high hopes from patient advocates and industry leaders. She will tackle issues like bias in medical tech, major device recalls, and potential conflicts left by the former director.
Patients want faster recalls and more vigorous safety checks, while the industry hopes to keep the U.S. a substantial market for innovation. Known for her focus on patient voices, Tarver’s priorities include building a diverse workforce, boosting agility, and advancing health equity—all while ensuring device innovation and safety go hand in hand.
We are thankful for the continued reporting on medical device safety issues by MedTech Dive reporter Elise Reuter.
